Ibrahim Senfuma is a Ugandan native, grew up in a village bordering the Mabira Forest Reserve, the largest remaining reserve in central Uganda. From a young age, Ibrahim Senfuma’s passion for bird conservation was nurtured through childhood experiences of caring for birds residing in his mother’s banana harvests. These formative years shaped his future as a dedicated bird guide and conservationist.

Professional Training in Guiding and Ecological Interpretation

Ibrahim Senfuma underwent rigorous training under the Forest Department (F.D.), where he specialized in bird, butterfly, tropical plant, game, and primate identification, as well as ecosystem interpretation. His expertise led to his appointment as a site guide at the Mabira Forest Reserve within the Mabira Eco-tourism Center. In this role, Ibrahim Senfuma led immersive experiences in birdwatching, tree identification, primate recognition, and ecological interpretation, further refining his guiding skills.

First Aid and Emergency Preparedness Training

During his tenure, Ibrahim Senfuma received first aid and rescue training through a program sponsored by the Uganda Red Cross Society and facilitated by the Forest Department. During a field practice session, he had a profound encounter with a duetting pair of Black-headed Gonoleks just a few meters away. In that moment, he reflected on how their habitat resembled the landscapes of his childhood—now rapidly disappearing due to agricultural expansion and urbanization. Motivated by this revelation, Crammy embarked on a personal and professional growth journey in 2011, dedicating himself to conservation education and advocacy.
